Eternal Lord

December 7

(John 1:1-2 NIV)  "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. {2} He was with God in the beginning."

(John 8:58 NIV) “I tell you the truth,” Jesus answered, “before Abraham was born, I am!”

(1 John 5:11NIV) “And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.”

John wanted to make sure we grasped the theological significance of the first Christmas. Jesus was born into our timeline and lived for a while among us, but he is also the eternal God of Adam, Abraham, and Moses. Christ was with God in the beginning because He is God. He and the great “I Am” are one and the same. Jesus is not a created being like the angels. He is the Creator. His life supersedes the confines of time because He created time. You can kill a man like this, but He won’t stay dead. Jesus had a human birthday and a time of death, but because He is eternal, He rose again. On that first Christmas night, eternity stepped into the confines of time and Jesus made Himself subject to aging and even to death. Those who follow Him receive this same eternal life.
