Warning Against Unbelief

June 29

(Acts 13:40-41 NIV) ““Take care that what the prophets have said does not happen to you: {41} "Look, you scoffers, wonder and perish, for I am going to do something in your days that you would never believe, even if someone told you.””

(Malachi 4:1-6 NIV) ““Surely the day is coming; it will burn like a furnace. All the arrogant and every evildoer will be stubble, and that day that is coming will set them on fire," says the Lord Almighty. "Not a root or a branch will be left to them. {2} But for you who revere my name, the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its wings. And you will go out and leap like calves released from the stall. {3} Then you will trample down the wicked; they will be ashes under the soles of your feet on the day when I do these things," says the Lord Almighty. {4} "Remember the law of my servant Moses, the decrees and laws I gave him at Horeb for all Israel. {5} "See, I will send you the prophet Elijah before that great and dreadful day of the Lord comes. {6} He will turn the hearts of the fathers to their children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers; or else I will come and strike the land with a curse.””

Paul shares one more piece of the Gospel. It often gets left out today because it makes people uncomfortable, but without it the Gospel is incomplete. Believing the good news of Jesus is optional, but the consequences for unbelief are not. Paul quotes the prophet Habakkuk, who told God’s people that a judgment was coming… because of their unfaithfulness they would be conquered by the Babylonians. Paul is saying, “Remember Babylon and choose wisely, for choices have consequences.” There are two eternal destinations for all mankind -- one for those who put their faith in Christ, and another for those who do not. Every person reading this page will spend eternity in either Heaven or Hell based upon their choice to accept Christ and His sacrifice for sin, or to refuse God’s grace and go their own way. Our faith makes a difference. The Gospel has not changed. Have you believed it? -- Friar Tuck’s Word of the Day
