(Psalm 124:1-8 NIV) "A song of ascents. Of David. If the Lord had not been on our side-- let Israel say-- {2} if the Lord had not been on our side when men attacked us, {3} when their anger flared against us, they would have swallowed us alive; {4} the flood would have engulfed us, the torrent would have swept over us, {5} the raging waters would have swept us away. {6} Praise be to the Lord, who has not let us be torn by their teeth. {7} We have escaped like a bird out of the fowler's snare; the snare has been broken, and we have escaped. {8} Our help is in the name of the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth."
(Deuteronomy 11:22-25 NIV) "If you carefully observe all these commands I am giving you to follow--to love the Lord your God, to walk in all his ways and to hold fast to him-- {23} then the Lord will drive out all these nations before you, and you will dispossess nations larger and stronger than you. {24} Every place where you set your foot will be yours: Your territory will extend from the desert to Lebanon, and from the Euphrates River to the western sea. {25} No man will be able to stand against you. The Lord your God, as he promised you, will put the terror and fear of you on the whole land, wherever you go."
(Romans 8:31 NIV) "What, then, shall we say in response to this? If God is for us, who can be against us?"
King David believed in a strong defense, but knew his real protection came from God. When under attack, the Lord is our ultimate defender. When storms rage against us, Jesus steps in to calm the waters. With a word, the winds and the waves are stilled. When we are trapped like a bird in a snare, Christ sets us free. We need not remain captives. When our enemies are larger and stronger than we are, the Lord shields us, and our defenses become impregnable. By His mighty power, we overcome our foes. When God is on our side, victory is assured. When God is for us, no enemy can stand against us. When we walk with Him and He walks with us, we will not be overtaken and defeated. Are you walking with the Lord today? Are you confident that He is walking with you? To be “on our side”, God must be by our side. -- Friar Tuck’s Word of the Day
